LAKE MANYARA NIGHT GAME DRIVE
Nocturnal animals are animals that are more active at night than during the day. In many cases, these animals spend most of their daylight hours sleeping. They include hippos, lions, leopards, porcupines, civet cats, white-tailed mongooses, aardvarks, and cape hares. To spot these animals, you have to experience a night game drive.
Our night game drives in Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Parks are conducted by experienced guides in our tailor-made 4×4 safari cruisers or land cruisers that are fitted with powerful lights for proper sightseeing at night.
LAKE MANYARA ECOSYSTEM
Lake Manyara is said to have 11 different systems, making it the ideal location for night game drives. The area is a melting pot for all types of animals and plants – with the lake, the rift valley cliffs, ground water forest, the Ngorongoro highlands, and the dry Tarangire system all close by. Manyara National Park has good reliable water year-round and animals here are in prime condition making wildlife viewing even better.
Lake Manyara is well known for a large number of Leopards and although it is not a common occurrence these elusive cats are spotted on a regular basis. Lion sightings are more common and where lions are mostly sleeping in day time at night they are almost always active.
NIGHT GAME DRIVE PROGRAM
Your drive starts around 20:00 from where you head into the thick ground-water forest of Lake Manyara. From the forest, you head down towards the lake following the Simba River to the hippo pools. You will return back to the forest and finally be back at the park gate around 22:30. This night safari will give you an entirely different perspective of the park and wildlife.

TANZANIA TRAVEL GUIDE
The main international road crossings into Tanzania are from Kenya. The most used is the border crossing at Namanga, about halfway between Nairobi and Arusha. The other principle border crossing is south of Mombasa on the coast at Lunga Lunga, from where the nearest large Tanzanian town is Tanga. There are quieter border crossings at Taveta, between Voi and Moshi, and Isebania on the main road between Kisumu and Mwanza.
Border crossings from other neighbouring countries include the Songwe border with Malawi and the Tunduma border with Zambia, both of which are in the southwestern corner of Tanzania and are reached by a good (but long) road from Dar es Salaam. There is a crossing with Uganda at Mutukulu, northwest of Bukoba, but this is a rough road and a remote region to get to. The easiest way to get to Uganda from Tanzania is via Nairobi in Kenya, from where there are daily bus services to Kampala. There is a border crossing with Rwanda at Rusomo, although again this is in the remote northwestern part of Tanzania although there are bus services between Mwanza and Kigali. Tanzania does share a border with Mozambique to the south, but road access between the two countries is very limited.
FLYING TO TANZANIA
There are frequent direct and indirect flights to Tanzania by numerous international airlines. International airlines that fly to Dar es Salaam include KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Swiss International Airlines, Emirates,Qatar Airways, Oman Air,Turkish Airlines,South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Egypt Airways, Kenya Airways, Air Uganda, LAM Mozambique Airlines and Rwanda Air. Departure tax: The international departure tax is US$50 but this is included in the price of an airline ticket.
TRAVEL BY RAIL
There are two railway lines. Tanzania – Zambia Railway which is run by the Tanzania and Zambia Railway Authority (Tazara) (tel: (022) 286 2033; www.tazarasite.com) and the Central line – Tanzania Railway line owned by Tanzania Railway corporation.
BY RAIL NOTE:
Tanzania – Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA), its train journey from Dar es Salaam to Kapirimposhi – Zambia is very long (around 50 hours) and there are frequent delays. Always travel in First Class in a two or four sleeper compartment. When the train crosses the border between the two countries, immigration officials board the train to complete border formalities. The central line between Kigoma and Dar es Salaam carries international freight and passengers in transit from Burundi, DR Congo and Rwanda to the Indian Ocean, and the branch from Tabora to Mwanza carries freight and passengers between Uganda and the Indian Ocean.train from Dar es salaam to Kigoma, Mpanda and Mwanza
GETTING TO TANZANIA BY BOAT
The main port is Dar es Salaam (http://www.tanzaniaports.com) which is served by commercial ships but no passenger services from other countries. It does however serve as the departure point for ferry services to Zanzibar.

TRAVEL INSURANCE
Things can happen when you’re travelling that are out of your control, so insurance should be a priority on your pack list. Considering the unpredictable nature, remote destinations and conditions encountered on many of our tours it is required to have emergency medical services and/or evacuation transportation.
And as flight schedules can change rather frequently on many African Airlines, trip cancellation/interruption insurance is also handy to get.
It’s best to purchase your travel insurance as far in advance as possible. Pre-existing medical conditions are usually not covered if you buy the insurance more than 14 days after your initial payment, and if you think you may need to cancel for any reasons, you will also need to purchase the insurance within 14 days. So it is just generally “good practice” to make that extra investment in insurance at this stage. We recommend that you get insurance on your flights when you purchase them, and on your safari or vacation when you pay the deposit (quite early before your trip)

HEALTH AND VACCINATION
Foot On Kili Tanzania strongly advise that you to visit your local Doctor as soon as possible after booking your trip to Tanzania. They will be able to provide you with all the relevant information you will require and the necessary vaccinations or other preventive measures; (such as malaria tablets or Diamox) for your Kilimanjaro trek.
Malaria Vaccinations
Malaria is transmitted by mosquitoes and is endemic to Tanzania. You may find yourself at risk in almost every part of the country; although this risk is diminished at altitudes above 6,561 feet / 2,000 metres. Care should always be taken between sunset and sunrise, especially during the rainy season. Always sleep under a treated net; wear trousers and closed footwear, and use an effective repellent. Your hotel in Moshi does have mosquito nets in all their rooms. You should check the nets are free of holes and contact reception if you have any issues.
Yellow Fever
Yellow fever is an epidemic arbors disease spread by the Adedes mosquito. Travellers entering Tanzania from areas with risk of yellow fever transmission areas such as neighboring African countries are required to provide a yellow fever vaccination certificate. See the Tanzanian Government website for more details. As some countries list Tanzania as a Yellow Fever endemic country you may also be asked for a certificate after departing Tanzania and arriving at other destinations. Basic Swine Flu checks are carried out at the main points of entry to Tanzania.
When you are considering what vaccinations to have prior to your trip you may want to discuss the following with your Doctor Or travel health clinic:
Cholera
Cholera is an acute infection of the small intestine caused by the Vibrio cholera bacterium which causes severe vomiting and diarrhea. The disease is transmitted through contaminated food and water and travelers should therefore practice strict food, water and personal hygiene precautions.
Diphtheria
Diphtheria is an acute, highly contagious respiratory infection caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium diphtheria which is spread from person to person by coughing and sneezing.
Hepatitis A & B
Hepatitis A is an inflammation of the liver transmitted through contaminated food and drink.
Hepatitis B is an inflammation of the liver transmitted through infected blood or blood products.
Meningococcal Meningitis
Polio
Tetanus
Tuberculosis (TB)
Typhoid Fever
Rabies-Avoid bites from any infected mammal e.g bays, dogs, cats, foxes and raccoons.
